As spring has sprung, we are excited to announce we are on the move… Twice!
The HJH Libraries For All Foundation has moved to Fort Collins!
Our new mailing address is 4562 Joydance Court, Fort Collins, CO 80524. Please be sure to update your records!
The San Juan del Sur Biblioteca is also on the move!
Several months ago, we lost our lease on the library building that we have been in since April of 2014, and the search for a new location has been difficult. Very few buildings were available to rent, and those were very expensive. After several unsuccessful attempts to secure a new site, we have finally found one that is just right for us, “like Goldilocks”!
The new library building is directly behind the Stella Maris Catholic school, which makes it a prime location to attract students and teachers. It is an ideal location for our library and community center to continue to flourish.
While the rent is more than we had been paying, it was by far the most affordable property available… but it needs a lot of work! The estimates we have received for the renovation total $25,000. A generous group of donors has pledged to match the first $10,000 of contributions.

The SJDS Library staff has laid out a plan that shows how we intend to use the new building. It has all the space we need now plus room to expand our programs.

Prior to occupying the building, we need to repair the metal roof, create a drop-down ceiling, update the electrical system, repair many of the existing walls, and give the building a new coat of paint. Once this major stage is complete, we will be able renovate existing plumbing and remove several walls to redesign the meeting rooms into a classroom space.

We have done it before and we can do it again, but not without your help.
The new building is in a similar condition as our existing building was when we first began renovating it 10 years ago. Our efforts in 2014 were spotlighted in a poster given at the American Library Association’s annual convention in an International Libraries poster show program entitled Global Solutions. This is proof positive that we have turned dilapidated buildings into libraries before. We know we can do it again, but we need your help!

A note from Jane:
Well everyone, it’s hard to believe we’re having to move again after only 10 years. Our previous move came about when we were at capacity in the little library building across from the hotel and a kind Rotarian friend suggested their club provide the funds to move to and renovate a new building. The building was discovered right nearby and a library architect happened to be in town! So, with a lot of collaboration in a short few months, we moved in and never expected to run out of space in this 3 times as large building.
Fast forward 10 years and although the move is motivated by a demand to vacate the premises, the reality is that we’ve actually outgrown this space too. We have secured a five year lease and an additional five year option and the new space is more than half again larger and still close to our main community space. So there is a silver lining! In a perfect world we would have already found the funds to do all this, but we know this is the right move if not the right timing and we really, really want to do this well, although it all needs to be done quickly.
I am hopeful and trusting that we will find the wherewithal to do this right and in a timely way.! So, this is my sincere plea. If you have any opportunity to support our bold, brave move, now is the time. All of your donations and suggestions for fundraising are needed and deeply appreciated. With your help, I know we can fulfill our match of $10,000 and reach our goal of $25,000 in time to be able to move on our target time of mid-May.Gratefully, Jane |
